The MDF-funded Aceh Forest & Environment Project (AFEP) is providing the resources to develop a collaborative management framework to protect and manage Aceh's Forest Resources.

The MDF for Aceh and Nias is a partnership of the international community, Government of Indonesia and civil society to support the recover following the earthquake and tsunami . Visit site

The Governor of Aceh has declared a moratorium on all logging in natural forests and set in place a mechanism for the full review of the Province’s forest sector. With support from the World Bank and at the request of the Governor, FFI is providing financial support from AFEP and facilitation for a range of consultations to inform the review process. Biodiversity Protection

Aceh's forest habitats and wildlife are a fantastic resource, but which are under considerable threat of destruction and degradation. FFI is working with national and local government partners to improve knowledge about Aceh's biodiversity and the actions which threaten wildlife and increase local capacity to implement laws and regulations that protect these resources. More

Education and Awareness

Inviting famous singers, building giant puppets and distributing sermon sheets during Ramadan are some of the activities that FFI uses to encourage communities and decision-makers in Aceh to commit to biodiveristy conservation in their daily lives and work. More

Sustainable Livelihoods

Communities living close to the Ulu Masen Forest, many of which have been affected by the Tsunami, can contribute to biodiveristy conservation and protection of the watersheds on which they depend. FFI has been working since the Tsunami with farmers in Aceh Jaya to re-establish their livelihoods whilst gaining their committment and developing livelihood solutions which help to maintain the environment. Environtment and Reconstruction

Post-Tsunami reconstruction efforts in Aceh have the potential to cause imense damage to the environment within and outside of Aceh. FFI is working to demonstrate how Aceh can be rebuilt with minimum impact on the environment and in particular the Ulu Masen and Gunung Leuser forests. More

Marine and Ecosystems

The biodiversity of Aceh's mangroves and coral reefs is an important resource for people's livelihoods - providing protection to coastal villages, harbouring economically valuable fish and bird populations as well as attracting tourists. FFI is working with coastal communities to rehbailitate and protect their natural resources after the Tsunami and maximise the benefits they can gain from protecting these ecosystems. More

Gajah Jinak Didatangkan ke CRU Pante Ceureumen

MEULABOH - Tim Flora Fauna Internasinal (FFI) pada bulan Nopember 2009 ini akan mendatangkan lima gajah jinak dari pusat pelatihan gajah jinak di Saree, Aceh Besar ke Conservation Response Unit (CRU) Pante Ceureumen, Aceh Barat. Staf Informasi dari FFI, Firman di Meulaboh kepada Serambi, Rabu (14/10) mengatakan, keberadaan CRU adalah sebagai tempat konservasi gajah sebab selama ini lokasi itu sering menjadi langganan gangguan gajah liar. “Dengan ada CRU yang lengkap dengan gajah jinak akan menjadi penghadang bagi gajah liar,” ujarnya.

Diakui, CRU yang dibentuk ada tiga lokasi di Aceh yakni pertama di Kecamatan Sampoiniet, Aceh Jaya yang sekarang sudah didatangkan empat gajah jinak, selanjutnya CRU Mane, Pidie yang mana gajah jinak dari Saree, Aceh Besar juga sudah didatangkan ke lokasi. Selanjutnya CRU di Pante Ceuremen Aceh Barat gajah jinak juga akan didatangkan.
